Parental Consent Form/Liability Waiver: Parents of all senior high youth (9th-12th graders) from St. Ludmila are reminded that the 2011-2012 Archdiocesan Parental Consent Form/Liability Waiver which your child received by mail at the beginning of October must be completed and returned to Bob Gardner’s mailbox in the Parish Center lobby by Monday, October 31st! IF THIS FORM IS NOT COMPLETED AND ON FILE AT OUR PARISH, YOUR CHILD WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND ANY OFF-SITE EVENT (skating party, ski trip, guest retreat, Planet X fun night) OFFERED BY THE PARISH, THE CEDAR RAPIDS AREA YOUTH MINISTERS, OR THE ARCHDIOCESE OF DUBUQUE THIS SCHOOL YEAR!

NCYC 2011 Info Session: NCYC 2011 participants and your parents are required to attend a meeting on Sun, Oct. 23, at 4P in the Church. This session will provide you with important info on transportation, lodging, departure/arrival times, conference keynote speakers, workshops, prayer and liturgy, entertainment, sight-seeing opportunities as well as answers to questions like: What should I pack? How much money should I bring? Who do I contact if I have a problem? This is our one and only info session, YOUR ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED! Call Bob 298.9525.

Teens Encounter Christ Retreat: Attention high school seniors! If you want to do something good for yourself then make plans to attend a Teens Encounter Christ (T.E.C.) retreat this school year. T.E.C. is a fantastic opportunity to reflect on important life and faith issues in a positive, fun, supportive Christian community as well as meet some incredible new people. There are several T.E.C. weekends being held at various sites around the Archdiocese of Dubuque from November through April. To register or for more information: contact Bob Gardner at 298.9525.

Middle School Youth Rally: Congratulations to all the 6th, 7th, 8th graders from our parish that joined nearly 100 youth from around eastern Iowa on Oct. 2 to celebrate faith and have fun at the 16th annual CR area Middle School Youth Rally at LaSalle MS. Our St. Ludmila participants included: Iman Juenger, Taylor O’Shea, Paige Janney, Ben Habel, Stephanie Wehr, Alex Penning, Nolan Dostal, Brayden Farmer, Jessica Winders, Jack Soukup, Grace Hiserote. A huge thank you to high schoolers: Rachel Flaherty, Ashley Spicer, Mike Wiltgen, Tori Fitzpatrick, Andrew Leytem, Cole Limkeman, Becca Winders, Cole Smejkal who served on the rally team as well as parents Dave/Melissa Dostal who served as chaperons - you are truly appreciated!

Confirmation Celebration: St. Ludmila has just received word from the Archdiocese of Dubuque that the date of our parish Confirmation celebration has been changed from Thursday, April 19, to Wednesday, April 18, at 7PM. Confirmation candidates and your families are encouraged to write this new date on your calendars; you will receive an updated schedule at the next required event on Sunday, October 9!

Middle School Youth Rally: Attention St. Ludmila 6th, 7th, and 8th graders! It’s not too late to register for the big Middle School Youth Rally on Sunday, October 2, from 1:30-6PM at LaSalle Middle School. The deadline has been extended to Wednesday, September 28, so your registration and $15.00 fee must be mailed or dropped off to Erin Roberts at St. Jude Church (NOT ST. LUDMILA!) by that date. Parents: be sure your middle schooler doesn’t miss out on this spectacular celebration of faith!

Kolach Bake Fundraiser! Thanks to the generous support of many parishioners the Kolach Bake Fundraiser on Sept 10 was a tremendous success. Over $2,400 was raised from the sale of over 300 dozen kolaches. These funds will provide much-needed financial assistance to the youth from St. Ludmila Parish who will be attending the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis in November. A huge thank you to chief baker Karen Billick who contributed an enormous amount of time, experience, and enthusiasm in organizing the event and keeping the whole operation running smoothly - as well as her wonderful crew of dedicated and hard-working parishioners, parents, and youth. We are also very grateful to all those parishioners who supported our efforts by purchasing kolaches.
Know that all of you are truly appreciated.
Middle School Youth Rally: “Up: A Guide to Heaven” is the theme for this year’s Middle School Youth Rally which will be held on Sun. Oct 2, from 1:30-6PM at LaSalle Middle School. Our 16th annual rally - which is being sponsored by C.R.A.Y.M. (Cedar Rapids Area Youth Ministers) features Catholic musicians “Breath of Soul from Nashville, and will also include icebreaker games, Mass and a dance. Cost is $15/person (advance registration only!) and all 6-12 graders from St. Ludmila parish and your friends are welcome. The registration deadline is Fri, Sept 23. Your completed registration form and fee must be mailed to St. Jude Youth Ministry (find address on form) by that date. All LaSalle Middle School and Religious Education students from our parish did receive registration forms last week, but extra forms are available from the Religious Education Office in the school or from Bob Gardner at LaSalle. Don’t miss out on the faith-sharing, food, fun and fellowship . . . we’ll see you on October 2!

Youth Ministry Kickoff Picnic: A huge thank you to St. Ludmila youth leaders Sarah Koenighain, Zach Brunscheen, Rachel Flaherty, Ashley Spicer, Jason Beer, Sammie Farmer, Alex Cunningham, Maddie Myers, and Carrie Darden who planned and facilitated our Youth Ministry Kickoff Picnic on August 31 at Jones Park. Also, special thanks to parents Barb Manternach, Molli Cunningham, and Mary Myers who served as chaperons. We appreciate all of you as well as your time, support, and positive spirit!

Confirmation Information Session Thanks: A big thank you to high school youth leaders Alex Cunningham, Carrie Darden, Sammie Farmer, Ryan Limkeman, and Maddie Myers from our parish who provided hospitality as well as gave personal testimony regarding their experience in the Confirmation process to our new candidates and their parents at the Confirmation Info Session on August 24.

G.O.D. Camp 2011: Congratulations to the youth of our parish (and friends) who participated in our first – ever G.O.D. Camp held on July 18-20 at Pictured Rocks Camp near Monticello! G.O.D. Camp was a fantastic opportunity for our 8th-12th graders to learn how to become more committed followers of Christ through prayer, witness, service, and community – building, and included tons of food, fun, and friendship! The participants were Jason Beer, Jamisyn Christner, Alex Cunningham, Carrie Darden, Katelyn Darden, Keighley Ehmsen, Jack Kenney, Maddie Myers, and Sam Wicke, while the camp was facilitated by team leaders Bryce Colston, Ryan Laudick, Megan Popenhagen, Kelsey Simoens, and John Slater as well as our youth minister, Bob Gardner. A huge thank you to the team for stepping out in faith and sharing your amazing gifts with the youth of St. Ludmila . . . please keep all of the participants and team leaders in your prayers.

Youth Ministry Announcements - Week of July 03, 2011
Mission: Possible 2011: On June 22-26, a team of senior high youth and young adults from St. Ludmila Parish – under the direction of our youth minister, Bob Gardner – traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for our annual service outreach experience. Mission: Possible 2011 was an exciting, challenging opportunity for our young people to share their time, talents, faith, and positive energy by serving those in need at 2 soup kitchens, 2 homeless shelters, a school for children with special needs, and an inner-city outreach center for at-risk families. As part of this service learning, the group shared meals, recreation, and prayer as well as celebrated the Eucharist at a downtown Catholic church known for its dynamic, uplifting worship. The participants were Mackenzie Philipp, Jason Beer, Rachel Flaherty, Jared Smith, Carrie Darden, Drew Distler, Jimmy Moore, Maddie Myers, and Molly Schmitz while young adults Ryan Laudick and Kelsey Simoens served as chaperons. We thank and applaud all of these caring, generous, dedicated young people for stepping out in faith and bringing Christ’s love, compassion and joy to our hurting, troubled world.

G.O.D. CAMP 2011 Updates: It’s not too late to sign up for G.O.D. CAMP 2011, a special new summer venture which is being sponsored by St. Ludmila Youth Ministry for youth entering grades 8 through 12 (for 2011-12 school year.) The camp will take place on July 18-20 at Pictured Rocks Camp near Monticello and will include service, faith-sharing, recreation, team-building, and tons of fun. Youth Ministry Announcements - Week of June 19, 2011
Parish Youth Leaders: A number of St. Ludmila senior high youth assumed special leadership roles in our parish and our archdiocese for the 2010-11 school year. Serving on the St. Ludmila Parish Council were Xavier senior Rachel Wiltgen and Prairie junior Zach Brunscheen, while Xavier senior Stephanie Winders and Xavier junior Sarah Koenighain served as youth representatives to the St. Ludmila Liturgy Committee. At the archdiocesan level, Jefferson senior Cory Rude recently completed a two-year term as a member of the Archdiocese of Dubuque Youth Commission. Sacrament of Confirmation: On Thursday, April 14, 47 youth members of our St. Ludmila Parish community received the Sacrament of Confirmation in a special liturgy at St. Ludmila Church. Most Reverend Jerome Hanus, O.S.B., Archbishop of Dubuque, served as presider and homilist, and he was assisted by our pastor, Fr. Tom McDermott, as well as Deacon Jim Berger. Confirmation Retreat: A huge thank you to everyone who helped to make our St. Ludmila Confirmation Retreat last weekend such a positive, meaningful experience for the candidates! Don’t forget to bring your 2-liter of pop and a snack to share plus your completed green service reflection sheet and white confirmation record form with you! The retreat will conclude on Sunday at 3:00 PM . . . please have your ride waiting to pick you up.

N.C.Y.C. 2011 Fundraising Meeting: All youth and young adults from St. Ludmila Parish who are signed up for N.C.Y.C. 2011 in Indianapolis as well as your parents are invited and strongly encouraged to attend our one-and-only fundraising meeting today Sunday, February 6, from 2:00-3:00 PM in the church. At this meeting we will brainstorm ideas for fundraisers, set a schedule for the events, and assign roles. Mark your calendar and plan to attend.
Quest Retreat: Congratulations to the senior high youth and young adults from St. Ludmila Parish who participated in the annual Quest Retreat on January 29-30 at LaSalle M.S.! This fantastic faith-sharing experience for 9th and 10th graders was sponsored by C.R.A.Y.M. (Cedar Rapids Area Youth Ministers) and involved 120 young people from the metro area. The candidates from our parish were Carrie Darden, Zach Lorimer, Maddie Myers, Emily Wetherell, Hunter Baldus, Ellie Burke, Katie Burke, Jamisyn Christner, Ryan Flaherty, and Ashley Pudil. Serving on the team from our parish were high schoolers Bethany Chambers, Noah Rickertsen, Rachel Wiltgen, Sarah Koenighain, and Sam Manternach as well as our youth minister, Bob Gardner. We applaud all of these wonderful young people for their willingness to grow in relationship with God and share their faith, talents, and positive energy with others . . . please keep all of them in your prayers.

Plan to join us for a great afternoon and evening of fun on the slopes at our 12th annual Ski Trip to Sundown Mountain in Dubuque on Saturday, February 12, from 1:45 PM to 11 PM. Three packages are available: lift ticket only for $40, ski rental and lession, lift ticket for $55, or snow board rental and lift ticket for $55: all packages include transportation by chartered bus.

Quest Retreat: On January 29-30, the Cedar Rapids Area Youth Ministers (C.R.A.Y.M.) will be sponsoring their annual Quest Retreat for freshman and sophomores at LaSalle Middle School. Quest provides a terrific opportunity to get away from your regular routine, meet new people, talk about important life and faith issues, and have a lot of fun, too. The retreat begins Saturday at 1 PM and concludes Sunday at 3 PM; it includes witness talks, small group faithsharing, recreation, and meals as well as Mass and a special reconciliation service. The cost of this overnight event is $30/person; space is limited and registrations are accepted on a first come, first served basis, so if you’re interested send your registration form and money in TODAY. The deadline to register is Fri, Jan 21. All 9th and 10th graders from St. Ludmila receive 2 registration form last month, but extra forms are available. If you have questions or need another form call Bob at 298.9525 TODAY! Now is the time to begin your quest to discover more about yourself, others, and God . . . and the Quest Retreat is the perfect place to start. PLEASE NOTE: check should be made payable to Archdiocesan Deposit and Loan and all forms and money must be sent to St. Jude Youth Ministry at address listed on the form (do not send to St. Ludmila).
