Liturgy and Spiritual Growth Committee Education Committee (Board of Education) Parish and Community Life Committee Finance and Administration Committee
Nine elected lay members serve three-year terms. The Parish Council assists the pastor in the spiritual leadership of the parish. The purpose of this council is to help all parishioners grow as Disciples of Jesus, using the seven components of discipleship as a guide:
The Discipleship Council motivates both adults and children of the parish to commit themselves to growth in the above areas by making an annual Covenant. Click here for more information about Discipleship.
Liturgy and Spiritual Growth Committee The Liturgy Committee prepares for special liturgies and trains parishioners for participation in Liturgical ministries as cantors, accompanists or choir members, hospitality ministers, lectors, commentators, Eucharistic ministers and altar servers. This sub-committee provides spiritual education, growth and development opportunities for all parishioners. New members are always welcome to join our Adult Choir, which sings for special seasonal liturgies. Members of the Funeral Choir provide music at all funerals of parishioners. This group prays for the sick in homes, hospitals, and care enters. They meet weekly.
Education Committee (Board of Education) The Saint Ludmila Board of Education interacts with the Holy Family Grade School System and Xavier High School. It oversees the parish religious education programs for children and adults. Special preparations for the Sacraments of Holy Eucharist, Penance and Confirmation are also offered. There are nine voting members elected for three-year terms. The pastor and Director of Religious Education are members of the Board. Saint Ludmila Education Center The school has classrooms for pre-school age children through grade four, a combination library and audiovisual center, and a computer room and offices. Kitchen facilities and cafeteria are used for hot lunch program and other parish functions. The Frana Sports Center provides space for physical education. Tuition assistance is available. Bus service is provided by the public school system, according to the law for those outside the two-mile limitation. Xavier High School serves the greater Cedar Rapids area. It was founded in 1998 and has an enrollment of approximately 700 students. Xavier strives to maintain a socially and economically diverse student body. Its mission is "to develop the total person in a Catholic environment". Saint Ludmila Religious Education Program An extensive program of religious instruction for children attending public schools is conducted in our parish. Classes meet Wednesday, 6:45 to 8:00 p.m., September through April. Contact the Religious Education office Monday through Thursday, 8:00 - 3:30 p.m. at 362-8148. High School students participate in activities that include religious education, weekend retreats, community service, as well as fun nights in the gym. The Confirmation preparation program is for grades nine and ten. The goal of this committee is to enrich the lives of parish families by organizing activities: M.O.M.'s Program, Marriage Encounter, Marriage Enrichment, Young Married Group, Marriage Preparation Program, Singles Group, and Holy Family Sunday speakers and literature.
Parish and Community Life Committee The Parish and Community Life Committee organizes activities through the follow groups that bring our parish community together as one... The Altar and Rosary Society is open to all women of the parish. Many of the activities are carried on in circles, which are smaller groups of women. These groups are very active and welcome new members. A Christmas party for all women of the parish is held in December in conjunction with the Women of Saint Ludmila. The Welcoming Committee greets new parishioners and invites them to participate in some of the many activities that make Saint Ludmila a parish that is vibrant and alive. Many enjoyable activities are organized by this group, including parish breakfasts, picnics, hayrack rides and Christmas caroling and canoe trips. This dynamic group of women of all ages meets from Septembejr through May on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the church Social Hall. They participate in various fun, social, and light-hearted activities that build a sense of community. The Senior Citizens gather on the third Wednesday of each month. All senior citizens are welcome. Prayer begins at 11:30, followed by a potluck at noon. A recreational or educational program follows. Bingo is held on Sundays at 6:00 p.m. and Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the school basement next to the church building.
The Social Concerns Committee helps with several charities, including The Caholic Worker House, the Clare House, St.Vincent De_aul, Green Square Meals and Habitat for Humanity. They also support local charity walks. Fundraisers include a spaghetti dinner, serving ice cream at bingo, bake sales and raffles. A blood drive is organized annually. The committee organizes parish participation in the Cedar Rapids First Light Racial Reconciliation prayer service and supports the Pro-Life with Love Committee.
Finance and Administration Committee The Finance and Administration Committee is responsible for planning, providing and supervising the financial affairs and the physical properties of the parish. Its members oversee the budget, stewardship and church maintenance of the parish plant. This sub-committee handles the maintenance of the parish buildings and grounds. Committee members facilitate minor improvements and carpentry work and also give advice for major projects.
