Stages in the Initiation Process

Inquiry:  may be weeks, months or years during which time a person asks questions and/or observes the practice of the Catholic faith.

Inquirers meet at St. Ludmila Parish Center, 2107 J St SW during the summer and early fall.  Some of our newest Catholics are present to  share their experience and to answer your questions.

After several weeks of Inquiry and study, a parish sponsor is selected who will accompany you on your spiritual journey.

 Catechumenate:

You and your sponsors experience the Rite of Welcome/ Acceptance during a Sunday Liturgy at St. Ludmila’s Church.

After the Homily, you will reflect upon the Scripture readings and teachings of the Church with the RCIA Team.

Election begins with Ash Wednesday and continues through the season of Lent.

On the First Sunday of Lent, you have the opportunity to express your desire for the sacraments.

Everyone is invited into a time of “more intense spiritual preparation” by Archbishop Hanus or his representative.

Those preparing for Baptism are called the “Elect”.  Those preparing for a Profession of Faith in the Catholic Church and the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist are called “Candidates”.

You will become full members of the Catholic Church at the Easter vigil.

 Mystogogia:

During the 50 days after Easter, the new Catholics continue to grow in the meaning of the sacraments, and in the practice and knowledge of the faith.
